An Associate Professor of Psychiatry at McGill University, Dr. Rousseau works at the Jewish General Hospital and the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) to develop clinical intervention and school-based prevention programs for children and youth in multi-ethnic neighbourhoods. Her previous research centred on risk and protection factors for the mental health of recently arrived immigrant families.

Clinically, she works with refugee and immigrant children, developing a model of culturally sensitive shared care for primary health care institutions. The school-based prevention programs for immigrant and refugee children developed by her team use a variety of creative expression modalities, including sand play, drawing and storytelling, theatre and video. Her research focuses on, among other things, the effect of the international context surrounding 9/11 on adults and children from minority and mainstream communities. This work will, ultimately, inform inter-sectorial policies and help schools to improve inter-community relations.
