Research Programs

The LDI’s Molecular and Regenerative Medicine axis brings together over 70 scientists actively involved in understanding the development and treatment of disease, including infectious diseases, hemovascular disease, neurology, and skeletal muscle disorders. 

The Molecular and Regenerative Medicine axis is home to an interdisciplinary group of researchers, including basic scientists, physicians, and nurses. This dynamic group studies how illnesses arise, focusing on using this knowledge to prevent, heal, or cure organs and tissues weakened by disease or normal aging. This encompasses the study of precise molecular mechanisms of disease to clinical oriented research projects at all stages to improve patient care. Approaches include genetics, genomics, biochemistry, molecular and cell biology (including stem cells), immunology, pharmacology, and physiology.

The pillars of the Molecular and Regenerative Medicine axis are interdisciplinarity and collaborative as they enable the understanding and integration of multiple important aspects of diverse pathologies:

• Hemovascular diseases such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, and thrombosis.
• Degenerative and autoimmune diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and musculoskeletal degeneration.
• Infectious diseases such as HIV, Lyme disease, and Covid-19, as well as new and emerging infectious diseases.
