Danielle Groleau is a medical anthropologist and received her PhD in Public Health from the Université de Montréal and completed a postdoctoral degree in Transcultural Psychiatry at McGill University. She specializes in the development of qualitative methods applied to evaluation research and social determinants of sexual and reproductive health that have implications for  mental health, human rights, public health programming and policy.

Professor Groleau can supervise postdoctoral fellows and graduate students from psychiatry, family medicine, social sciences, humanities, public health and medicine.

Major Research Activities

Danielle Groleau’s current research interests are:
  • Illness meaning and experience of perinatal depression, medicalization of female genital mutilation (FGM/C), obstetric fistula, breastfeeding,
  • Evaluation of health policy, programs and health services using qualitative and mix-methods
