Research Interests

Dr. Jacques Balayla is an obstetrician-gynecologist and public health specialist. He obtained his Medical Doctorate from McGill University, and completed specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the same institution. He is also certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in the clinical investigator program (CIP), and holds a Masters in Public Health from the ESPUM, as well as certification in Human Genetics from Harvard University. Currently, he serves as the surgical director at Clinique MedicElle, and is an Osler fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University. Dr. Balayla’s research has been recognized by the Fonds de Recherche Sante du Quebec (FRQS), which has provided funding for his work.

Dr. Balayla’s research is focused around two main areas: first, he uses tools from Bayesian statistics and classical differential geometry to analyze screening curves, with the ultimate goal of enhancing risk considerations in the clinical interpretation of screening tests in public healthcare systems. His other main research interest includes the epidemiologic study of reproductive outcomes in both the infertile and pregnant populations.

The specific research areas in the laboratory include:

  • Bayesian statistics
  • Research methods
  • Perinatal epidemiology
